Artistic Expressions

Fire your passion for art at the regions renowned museums. Brandywine River Museum of Art and the Delaware Art Museum celebrate the extraordinary lives and art of native sons Andrew Wyeth and George (Frolic) Weymouth. Delaware Art Museum’s “Eye on Nature: Andrew Wyeth and John Ruskin,” focuses on the two artists born a century apart on different continents. Their commonality, a life-long obsession and close observation of the world around them, is reflected in this exhibition of their artistic expressions. The Brandywine River Museum of Art will pay homage to Museum and Brandywine Conservancy founder, George A. (Frolic) Weymouth. A true renaissance man, Weymouth was a philanthropist, conservationist, and talented artist who was mentored by close friend Andrew Wyeth. “The Way Back: The Paintings of George A. Weymouth,” is a landmark exhibition of approximately 65 of Weymouth’s work in a variety of mediums. The exhibition runs from January 27 through June 3, 2018. The Brandywine Valley’s close proximity to Philadelphia makes the city an easy day trip to visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art and other renowned attractions. The museum is known internationally for an amazing array of collections. In 2018 a groovy exhibition will be on display from February 3 through September 8, 2018. Explore “Design in Revolution: A 1960’s Odyssey,” capturing this tumultuous decade with the work of designers, artists and architects.

 

 

Harbinger of Spring

A taste of spring is available all winter long at Longwood Gardens and Orchids take center stage at the Orchid Extravaganza, January 20 through March 25, 2018. Wander through the four-acre conservatory where thousands of orchids drape from walls, flow from orbs and form a captivating 12 -foot archway. In March, blue flowers join the show at the Winter Blues Festival. Blue poppies and hydrangeas mix with cool blues music in Longwood’s majestic conservatory. The 2018 Philadelphia PHS Flower Show celebrates the life-sustaining interplay of horticulture and water with “The Wonders of Water” from March 3 -11, 2018.
