Brandywine Valley’s bustling brewery scene is heating up this summer! The BV brew scene includes more than 20 local breweries to choose from. But how do you decide which one is best for you and your drinking buddies? If you want to enjoy local brews while enjoying the beautiful Summer weather Chester County has to offer, then this guide is for you! These four local breweries all have unique outdoor spaces that are perfect for a day or night session with your friends.
IRON HILL BREWERY – West Chester
Chester County locals are familiar with Iron Hill as one of the area’s finest dining experiences. Iron Hill’s restaurant has a reputation as one of the best eateries in the area and reservations are must-have for this hot spot. What many people don’t realize is that Iron Hill has a huge selection of house-made brews offered both seasonally and regularly. Enjoy a delicious Lemondrop sunrise—an American wheat beer brewed with lemon drop hops—while you take in the beautifully busy downtown West Chester. Even if you aren’t a beer lover, the variety of house-made brews at Iron Hill Brewery offers options for everyone’s tastes. The seasonal Summer brews use flavors such as lemongrass, Grains of Paradise, strawberry rhubarb and many more. Iron Hill Brewery has the perfect balance of fine dining and casual drinking that will make anyone’s Summer night fun and memorable.
LEVANTE BREWING COMPANY – West Chester
Another popular Chester County brewery is Levante Brewing. Levante is located right next to West Chester University campus in a small industrial park and is a popular spot for students and locals alike. With more than 100 beers to choose from, this brewery and taproom is ready to satisfy even the pickiest beer lovers around. On sunny days, Levante opens its massive garage door to allow customers to enjoy the weather. Local food trucks often park in the lot to give patrons a chance to enjoy some local cuisine. An extension of this outdoor fun can be enjoyed at Highland Orchards this Summer where Levante Brewing has a pop-up beer garden every Friday, Saturday and Sunday. It is the perfect place for some family fun in the sun! Picnic tables adorned with umbrellas line the orchard grounds to let families beat the heat. Concessions are available from local vendors and can also be purchased at the Highland Orchards country store where customers can buy fresh produce and baked goods 100% made at the orchard. For the kids, Highland Orchards features a playground and petting zoo with goats and chickens just steps away from the Levante Brewing pop-up. Levante has transformed this amazing outdoor space into a family fun oasis. What an amazing way to spend the weekend!
STOLEN SUN CRAFT BREWERY – Exton
Located in Exton, PA is Stolen Sun Craft Brewery & Roasting Company. Only opening its doors in 2018, this renovated gym warehouse is one of the newer destinations in Brandywine Valley’s brew scene. This brewery/coffee house is the perfect place to blow off some steam no matter what time of day! The taproom at Stolen Sun features an open room for locals and visitors to enjoy some of the house-made beer on tap, with an upstairs section perfect for larger parties. The taproom often features live music and certain Sundays are known to feature an amazing jazz brunch for coffee and beer lovers (visit stolensun.com to see a list of events!). For customers who don’t want to miss out on the Summer weather, Stolen Sun also has an open patio adjacent to the brewery. The patio feels like an elaborate family garden, which is appropriate since it is a family owned business in Chester County. It is the perfect place to lose track of time with friends while you chill out and catch some rays. So, sit back, relax and enjoy the beer at this promising Chester County brewery!
STABLE 12 – Phoenixville
If you’re looking for a fun bar with a neighborhood feel, stop in at Stable 12 in Phoenixville, PA! This brewery is a great place for people who want a relaxing spot to eat some great food with a cold beer after work or on the weekends. The small-town feel of Phoenixville makes this spot even more charming. Stable 12 staff will treat you like old friends. Don’t be afraid to ask for recommendations on their menu! The regulars love to gush about the “best pub food around”. Next to the main tap room, visitors can look inside the massive garage where all the brewing magic happens. The outdoor section has a beer garden feel with picnic tables and pebble walk to bring the outdoor Summer experience to life. With a front row seat to the happening scene on Bridge Street, there is always something to see on the Stable 12 patio. This Chester County spot is welcoming to everyone. While it’s not the biggest site to savor your choice of house-made brew, it is full of character and will make you come back for more!
