Sometimes perfect family pictures capture that one moment where everyone is happy and smiling, but the rest of the outing is complete chaos. Today was not sometimes…. It was perfection. We went strawberry picking at Highland Orchards.
It was a smooth process and started with a gorgeous, scenic drive in our mini-van through the Orchards “like real farmers.” We were then assigned a row for our family to pick strawberries. Everyone was inquisitive, excited, happy and quiet. It was relaxing, maybe even tranquil!
Each child (and adult) leaned over and quietly filled their basket with beautiful, juicy red strawberries. The youngest filled his shirt with plump berries and tried to sneak a bite before Mom noticed. The girls had a contest to see who could find the biggest berry! Mom watched in amazement as everyone got along, picking strawberries and having fun. No bugs in sight. Beautiful views. Smelled like strawberry shortcake.
After we filled our containers we headed to the family tractor (aka mini-van) and drove through the orchards some more. We saw apple trees, blackberry bushes, pear trees, black raspberries, red raspberries, and peach tree. We decided we are coming back to pick each crop as its ready!
We finished our day with amazing warm apple cider donuts and fresh strawberries for lunch. We said hello to the many goats on the farm. Included a brand new baby goat that was born just 18 hours ago!
A glorious morning. The kind moms dream about. The kind of morning that surely made lasting memories!
