Revel in Autumn's artistry throughout Chester County's Brandywine Valley; at every turn, the bounty of our lush, colorful landscape comes to life. The rich legacy of arts and culture in the Brandywine Valley is expressed in a myriad of ways in the vibrant fall season.
Brandywine is home to both the Brandywine Museum of Art and the Wharton Esherick Museum; a joint venture The Crafted World of Wharton Esherick will be on view at the Brandywine Museum of Art from October 12, 2024, through January 19, 2025. Esherick, known as the “dean of American Craftsman,” was a sculptor who worked primarily in wood, molding furniture, interiors & buildings. His work can be found in the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, among other places. The Crafted World details Esherick’s career from early woodcut illustrations to his revolutionary reimagining of furniture forms. To further explore the amazing work of Esherick, plan a visit to the Wharton Esherick Museum, in Paoli, Pennsylvania. This studio/residence is one of his most creative endeavors. In 1972, the Studio became the Wharton Esherick Museum and is now a National Historic Landmark for Architecture. More than 200 pieces of Esherick’s work are on display; it is open to the public for guided tours by appointment. *Please note the Wharton Esherick Museum closes for the season Sunday, December 29, 2024, and reservations are required.
